The History of Our School
Creative Education Preparatory institute #1 and #2 were founded by Dr. Gil Sena, Thomas J. Crespin, and Swati (Tina) Patel. The process began in January 2003. The charter was completed and submitted to the Albuquerque Public Schools (APS) in October 2003. The charter was approved to open two schools one at 69 Hotel Circle in the Northeast Heights, and one at 4801 Montano Road NW on the Westside in Taylor Ranch.
The schools opened in August 2004 with an enrollment of 360 students. All 360 students were housed in the CEPi #2 school building until the renovations were completed at the Westside campus in October 2004.
CEPi #1 and #2 went their separate ways after the 2006-2007 school year due to the Public Education Department decision that each school needed to have their own independent management team. The former CEPi #2 changed its name to Dr. Gilbert Sena Charter High School in August 2009.
